Longs Peak Chorus – Director
Director – Johnny Bugarin
A Colorado Native, Johnny Bugarin has been involved in barbershop since his sophomore year of high school. He is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Music Education degree from the Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado. He serves as the assistant director and the baritone section leader for the Sound of the Rockies Chorus. Johnny was selected as the director of the 52eighty Youth Chorus in May of 2015
Johnny has been a part of multiple vocal and instrumental ensembles ranging from the Laudamus Chorale to the Boulder Symphony Orchestra. In his time at the University of Northern Colorado, he was involved in the top mixed choir and was also the principal bassoon in the UNC Symphonic Band. Johnny also had the privilege of singing in the MSU Men’s Choir under former Longs Peak Chorus director Dr. Jay Dougherty.
His quartet, The Pine, won the quartet contest at the 2016 Rocky Mountain District Barbershop Convention! The Pine has represented the Rocky Mountain District twice in the Collegiate/Youth Barbershop Quartet International Contest where the quartet placed as high as 17th.
Johnny is currently an applicant in the BHS Contest and Judging Program where he aspires to become a judge in the Music Category. It will be a tough journey, but feels he will make it with the support he has been given from the Longs Peak Chorus, 52eighty, as well as the Sound of the Rockies!
